Yeah, I guess I'll watch

Occasionally, Saturday Night Live can still be funny. I almost choked last night when during Weekend Update Seth Meyers said, 'And tomorrow the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers are opening for Bruce Springsteen.'
It does seem that the buzz around this years Super Bowl is a little subdued. Unless you live in Pennsylvania or Arizona most people don't seem to care. Perhaps it's a sign of the times. I think we are all feeling the pinch of this tough economy. But it's still nice to be able to sit back, relax and enjoy one of America's greatest traditions. Yep, by that I mean corporations spending the kind of money that could alter the economy of third world countries for 30 seconds of advertising. The estimated price tag for this years blip in time is an average 2.7 million dollars. Is it worth it? Who knows. Just seems ridiculous to me.
I will, however, be watching the big event (peripherally, while I paint the living room). It's just not the same since last years tremendous finish by MY New York Giants (yes I own them) resulted in me watching the big celebration parade through New York City smashed up against the Woolworth building for 2 hours. It was worth every second to be able to see that Vince Lombardi trophy come into view around the corner. Such a dark and gray day that was and the trophy of all trophies seem to be illuminated from within. A great beacon of accomplishment held high for all to adore........ahhhh, memories.
So...I feel it's going to be the citizens of Phoenix that will be relishing in this type of excitement when that trophy goes to Arizona after the Cardinals 23-17 victory over the Steelers.
Before you take that to the bank....ask my partner about my picks in last years football pool.
Not good.
